The story behind the Blue Texel Sheep

About 50 years ago, generally only white sheep were kept. Farmers had white sheep, from which came white lambs. This remained so until a sheep gave birth to triplets where one lamb (a male) stood out because of its different colour. The lamb's wool was not white but metallic blue. The farmer found this interesting and kept the ram to breed with, which started the birth of the 'Blue Texelaar' and then grew.

    Met de juiste zorg blijft uw schapenvacht jarenlang mooi! Hier de tips die wij geven om uw schapenvacht het beste te verzorgen.

    Vlekken verwijderen: Vlekken in de wol verwijder je het best met een licht vochtige doek. Zorg er voor dat de leerkant niet nat wordt.
    Uitkloppen: Klop de vacht af en toe buiten uit om stof, vuil en losse wolharen te verwijderen.
    Borstelen: Tijdens het gebruik kan de wol van de vacht wat gaan vervilten. Door de vacht af en toe met onze wolkam te borstelen, wordt de wol weer luchtig en zacht.
    Stofzuigen: Door op een lage stand en bij voorkeur met een meubelborstel uw vacht te stofzuigen worden lossen vuilresten verwijderd.
    Geur: Een schapenvacht kan in het begin nog naar schaap ruiken. Vindt u dit vervelend, dan is het het beste om de vacht gewoon in gebruik te nemen. De vacht neemt dan vanzelf de geur van uw omgeving aan.
    Extra fris: Laat de vacht buiten luchten of hang hem in de mist voor natuurlijke opfrissing.Let op: een schapenvacht kan niet gewassen worden.

    Wassen: Een gewone schapenvacht kan niet gewassen worden. (medicinale schapenvachten zijn wel wasbaar)
    Zonlicht: Vermijd zonlicht bij geverfde vachten, door UV licht kan de kleur veranderen.

    FAQs

    Can I wash a sheepskin?

    That depends on the type of sheepskin. Our regular sheepskins are not washable. Please refer to our care instructions for more information.
    The medicinal sheepskins are washable. However, do this as little as possible to preserve the lanolin in the skin. Always wash a sheepskin on a special wool programme and allow it to dry as slowly as possible. A skin should never be put in the dryer.

    Can I return or exchange a sheepskin?
    Yes, we offer a one-time free exchange or return if the skin is not what you expected. This must be done within 14 days and can be done through our returns system. Here you can indicate whether you want a different skin or a refund. The skin must, of course, be unused.
    What is the difference between a medicinal sheepskin and a regular sheepskin?
    Good question!
    A medicinal sheepskin is short-shorn, washable and often yellowish in colour due to the special tanning process. This skin is widely used in healthcare for pressure and joint complaints.
    A regular sheepskin has the natural wool length and is available in many different colours. Regular sheepskins are especially popular because of their natural comfort and warm appearance in the home and garden.
